ADOPTED !

i sure love happy endings. Here is Zeus with his new family.
Read about Zeus below. Thanks to everyone who inquired.

Zeus was allotted the dominion of the sky after having waged war against Cronos and the TITANS. Zeus surpasses all others in spirit, wisdom and justice. He prevails upon good men by persuasion, intimidating the evil by punishment. Zeus, some say, caused the Trojan War, so that the load of death might empty the world. Zeus got the thunderbolt, his ultimate weapon, from the CYCLOPES, and an eagle brings back the thunderbolts which Zeus has flung.

doG of Thunder?
Destiny, son of night, invisible and dark extended his inescapable dominion over all, even Zeus.

--Homer

Yes...that's our bed, and no...he doesn't look like a doG of Thunder here, but.... Don't let him fool you. We've had our share of older dogs and Zeus is different. For starters, being eight years old, he THINKS and ACTS like a much younger dog. Then there is the fact that he has no gray on his muzzle. Did I mention that he's a slim 73 lbs.? How about the fact that he and our 11 month old puppy love to trash each other. Got tennis balls??? Woobies that need killing? You get the picture. On the other hand he loves our CAT. After all, who gets the tastiest food and is willing to share?

Zeus and his nylabone

Zeus was turned into rescue because he had been left outside tied to a chain when his owner moved. He had been outside for two weeks when we got the call. I asked one of our volunteers down south if she would go check on him Monday night and help transport him to Gail and I on Wednesday. Janet not only checked on him, she couldn't bear to leave him and took him home to her family that night. Zeus stayed with Janet and her family for two nights and then she brought him to us on Wednesday.

We discovered 3 lumps on Zeus and got him down to our vet on Thursday. Zeus is a very sweet boy and the vet prodded, stuck and made him suffer other dignities, all without a whimper. Anyway...one of the lumps is a fatty tumor and not a problem. The other two are sebaceous cysts, which aren't a big deal either but we are going to have them removed on the vets recommendation. Okay...here it comes.
HELP. It would be really nice if someone could sponsor Zeus and pay for his surgery. It's only going to cost $115.00. The problem is that our Woody Fund has almost run dry due to all the older and sick dogs that GRRMF has taken in. As far as I'm concerned, the Woody Fund is what sets GRRMF apart from most other rescues. We do our best to treat any dog that comes into the program regardless of age or cost. If you can't foster a donation would be a nice way of helping out all these older dogs. Help us, help these guys who are here through no fault of their own. Thank you.

Zeus now has a sponsor. Webster describes a sponsor as:
sponsor

Text: one that accepts responsibility for another person or thing
Synonyms angel, backer, backer-up, guarantor, patron, surety
Related Word advocate, champion, mainstay, supporter, upholder; preferrer, promoter; benefactor, Maecenas

We describe them as Colleen, Rick and Shadow (a GRRMF rescue)! Click
HERE to see how Shadow now lives the good life. We would like to give a
big thank you to Shadow. We have gotten many more offers to sponsor
Zeus. Please don't forget all the other many Goldens we have in rescue now.
We have many more than appear on our web-page! Thank you!

Zeus had his surgery done today and everything is fine. The vet said that she didn't have to remove any muscle and there was absolutely nothing to worry about! They were sure glad to see me come pick him up. It seems that the only time he wasn't barking was when he was under <smile>. By the way, he doesn't do that here. Poor guy just wanted to come home! You would have never known he had surgery the way he came running out of the vet's office. The vet said she stitched him really good so he and Tyler could start trashing each other again immediately. And I thought I was going to get a break from the non-stop playing! Another big thanks goes out to Colleen, Rick and Shadow for sponsoring Zeus's surgery. GRRMF couldn't do this without people (and dogs) like them. Want to see a picture of Frankendog? Go to Shadow's page by clicking HERE.

Yeah...we let him on the couch too!
Here's what we know about Zeus. He gets along great with other dogs, but likes to play alot. I'm not kidding!!! He knows basic commands and is willing to please. CATS are not a problem! He has a Golden temperament. He doesn't have to be crated and is fine with run of the house. If he has to go outside or wants to play he "talks" to you. Very cute! Zeus is in great shape for an eight year old. Nobody can believe he's that old. He's at a good weight and is handsome to boot! Zeus walks great on a lead. No pulling!!! Okay...what else could you want in a Golden Retriever? If I were you I would get that application in fast.
