"Neighbors bring food with death and flowers with sickness and little things in between. Boo was our neighbor. He gave us two soap dolls, a broken watch and chain, a pair of good-luck pennies, and our lives. But neighbors give in return. We never put back into the tree what we took out of it: we had given him nothing, and it made me sad."—Scout

From the book "To Kill A Mockingbird" Harper Lee 1960

Well this little girl has lots to give and does so freely! We got Scout from Sarasota Animal Control on 7/10/02. She was picked up as a stray and had been there since June 29. Heartworm positive and not spayed, along with her age, she might as well have come in with a sign that said "unadoptable". Hah! What a treasure she is!

As you can see from the picture, Scout is a very petite 50 lbs.and sweet to the bone. She is being fostered by Linda and her two dogs Katie (pictured), Cleo (Linda's former foster) and her current foster Lucky.Scout loves toys and even "woo-woos" to show her enjoyment! She really is just preceious.

Scout has started her heartworm treatment and should be cleared for adoption by the end of August. She has to be spayed of course when her heartworm treatment is complete. Our vet estimates her age at 7 or 8 years. Okay folks, here is the real deal. If you want the PERFECT dog, get your application in NOW! Scout has a temperament to die for, gets along with other dogs, is house trained, weighs only 50 lbs., is cute as she can be and makes you LAUGH! Gail and I would take this girl in a minute. The only reason we aren't is because it would be selfish of us.She's just too perfect :)

I'd like to thank a few people here. Thanks to Tammy at Sarasota Animal Control for calling us and alerting us to Scout. She saved her life. Thanks to GRRMF for bringing Scout into their program, knowing her medical care would be costly and she wasn't a "spring chicken". You folks who contribute to GRRMF should be very proud! I don't know of any Golden that was denied admittance to the program because they were going to cost too much! Most of all...thanks to Linda and Bill who are fostering Scout. No amount of money can buy the love and care a foster home provides.

For those of you who haven't read Harper Lee's book
To Kill A Mockingbird or seen the movie starring
Gregory Peck, please do. Then you will kow why
Scout is so special and why she has so much to tell
and teach us.
