and frequently asked questions

STOP! Before you email Sawyer, please read below!
We are only Sawyer's foster parents. We are not board members nor do we have anything to do with applications and adoptions. Therefore, we can't tell you the status of your application or even if it's been received. Please write info@grrmf.org for this information. Even better, be patient :) Every application is answered but it may take 4 to 6 weeks depending on volume.

NOW, here are some frequently asked questions

1: Does Sawyer have to go to a performance home?
Of course not. He'd make a great pet, BUT, he does have to attend obedience class with whomever adopts him.

2: Is he really as busy as you describe?
Yup. He's a puppy. He will calm down and he's crate trained to boot.

3: We have small children. Would he be good with them?
Sawyer is very sweet and I'm sure he would never intentionally harm a small child. He would however knock one down in his exuberance. Sawyer came from Animal Services so therefore we don't have a history and he won't be allowed to go to a home with small children. Please keep this in mind.

4: How much does Sawyer weigh?
When he went in to be neutered, he weighed 58 lbs. He's at a great weight for his age and build. He runs like the wind!

5: I know you said he gets along with other dogs and your cat, but what's his overall temperament like?
In a word, OUTSTANDING! I consider temperament to be the "hallmark" of a Golden Retriever. On a scale of 1 to 10, Sawyer gets a TEN!

6: We walk our dogs a lot but don't have a fence. Is it really necessary?
I think so. You have to see Sawyer. At least 3 times a day he'll go outside in our backyard and run, run, run. If no one will run with him, he'll do it by himself! He is the King of "frap". We probably should have named him Forrest or Gump. He not only runs...he makes you smile.

7: Does Sawyer still "chew" things? You know, like couches and T.V. remotes.
Not over here he doesn't! He's tried a few times and we have always caught him and directed him to more appropriate things. He hasn't done it in a few weeks now, BUT, we watch him and crate him when we can't.

8: I know you said Sawyer was crate trained, but so was my other dog and it was always a struggle to get him in. Is Sawyer like that?
Not if you say the "magic" words. Crate up. I'm not kidding. He loves his crate, it's where good things happen. Treats, praise, etc... We never use the crate for punishment or "time outs". It's always a good place and has paid off. Use the magic words and he runs in there in anticipation of good stuff!

9: Does he like to swim?
We really don't know as we don't have a pool. Sorry.

10: We like to take a lot of trips with our animals. How does Sawyer ride in a car?
He's great. No fuss at all, he just likes to look out the rolled up window.

11: Well! You haven't scared me off! What if I want to adopt Sawyer? What should I do?
When you send in your application to GRRMF, include a cover letter and tell us why you think Sawyer would be that perfect fit in your home. Trust me, he's a pot o' gold, a real treasure, a diamond in the rough, oh heck! you know what I'm saying :)
