And guess what! I just got one!
Roxi Adopted  Roxi Updates  GRRMF  Roxi's Buds

Roxy will be going to her new home very soon. They say good things
come to those willing to wait. Roxy is getting everything she wanted. A
new brother to play with, a backyard with a fence so she can chase lizards
till she drops, and most important, a mother to love her. I will put all the
details and photos up on this page soon. Many thanks to all of you who
inquired about Miss Roxy.

PLEASE READ THIS
I've received a lot of inquiries about Roxy and the first question that most people ask me is "why has she been in rescue so long." The reason, is that Roxy may require a little extra supervision on the part of whomever adopts her. Her prey drive is quite strong and she may be tempted to bolt through a screen enclosure if she sees a lizard or squirrel. This can be fixed with a little work! If I had a screen enclosure it wouldn't be a problem now. I am more than willing to teach someone to teach Roxy that screens are off limits. Roxy doesn't jump at windows or the door so that is not a problem. She is perfectly behaved inside. Quite the lady! She walks very nice on lead and will do sit stays and down stays. Roxy would like a home with a six foot fence but it is not a requirement. What she needs most of all is someone to love her.

A note from David

I've had Roxy for nearly two weeks now. I didn't know exactly what to
expect, since she's been in rescue for so long. She is as tall as a normal
sized male--but could that really be it? I've been told she's capable of
jumping a four foot fence, but she hasn't tried that in my backyard (of
course I keep her on a 26' flexi-lead). I assumed she wouldn't be
house-trained: she is. Maybe she constantly yaps in her crate: she
doesn't. Tear through the house like a maniac, jump on everyone in
sight, raid the garbage at every opportunity, chew the furniture right
in front of your face, get on the furniture??????
Nope. Roxy is one of the sweetest girls you'll meet. She is crated when
I cannot observe her (i.e., when I leave the house), and is exercised on
lead in the backyard, and taken to daycare a couple of times a week.
She's easy to live with, loves to play ball, and chews the appropriate
toys. And she loves to go for walks. Roxy is pretty submissive, and can
startle at times.
She needs a home with someone who is no stranger to Golden
Retriever-size dogs. She is in remedial training with me, and requires
patience and understanding. She is smart and willing, but it will take a
little effort to get her steady on all the obedience exercises.
This is the question I probably get asked most often: "Is he/she perfectly trained? Our current dog (usually seven, eight,
nine years old) is just perfect, and we want a trained dog. I'm doing my best to make sure that Prancer, my other rescue,
and Roxy are good house pets, with the basic commands in their brains somewhere. They will not be 100% reliable---
think of the short time I've had them--- but, hey, training can be a lot of fun for both of you!
Roxy is going to make someone think they are the luckiest person in the world. You will wonder why anyone would give
up such a fantastic dog. Truly, Roxy has the Godlen--- no Golden, personality. If you don't like sweet, affectionate dogs
who love to be with you, BEWARE!!! Hope to hear from some of you soon.

Roxy Update 12/31/99
As of yesterday, Roxy has come to live with us, our 3 dogs and cat, due to Davids soon
departure for South Carolina. She was immediately awarded our dogs "seal of approval".
They get along really great so a family with other dogs would be no problem. She got a big
thumbs down from our cat. I'm afraid Roxy will have to go to a cat free home. For the life
of me I can't understand why this poor soul has been in rescue for sooo long. She really is
the sweetest thing. We are continuing the training that David started. Sit,down, heel, stay
come on command and all that good stuff. Her house manners are already quite good. I
will keep this page updated on her progress and hopefully her adoption. If you have any
questions on Roxy , please feel free to e-mail us at
roxy@sarasota-retrievers.com.

Roxy Update 01/19/00
Roxy has been with us for about 3 weeks now and is in doggie heaven. She is
big pals with our other 4 guys and having a blast. She really would like a new
home of her own though. We have received numerous inquires and want to
thank everyone who has written. Please be patient as the adoption process
is taking a while due to the number of applications being received. If you are
interested in Roxy, please be sure to include her name on your application.
We are taking Roxy with us to a lot of different places and socializing her. She
is doing great and I promise she won't embarrass you at PetSmart. She loooves
to go to different places and meet people. We have slacked up on her training a
little bit due to the fact that we have taken in ANOTHER dog. She does the
basic commands but needs some polishing. Her house manners are great. We
still can't understand how this sweet dog has been in rescue so long.

Roxy Update
01/31/00
Life just isn't fair sometimes. The new dog that we took in went to a wonderful
new home yesterday. And here sits Roxy. Don't get me wrong, Roxy loves it here,
but I'm sure she would like her own permanent home. She has a lovely face on top of that
tall body. She is extremely low maintance. Just requires food, water, a place to
potty and some loving. When you come home and she starts hopping up and
down like some big,red bunny rabbit because she is glad to see you, it is priceless.
We don't crate Roxy at bedtime anymore. She sleeps with us and our other three
guys. Not a bit of problem. We will start working with her more since we are down
to four dogs again. Got questions? Write Roxy at:

Roxy Update 02/27/00
"
Roxxx---anne, you don't have to put out the red light"(the Police) has become
Roxys favorite song. She also likes Roxy Lady or was that Foxy Lady by Jimi
Hendrix. You have got to see her when I sing these songs to her! She is so funny!
Roxy is doing really great and is a pleasure to foster. All our guys just love her
and she is even starting to learn that poor ol' Clancy (our cat) is off limits. Even so
she should go to a cat free home. Roxy would love to have a canine friend to play
with, or even better a family willing to give her the loving she deserves. Unfortunately
we have spoiled her silly and she loves human companionship. If you want a loyal
pet, and can return the favor, then Roxy is your gal! She will definitely make you
smile and laugh! Her obedience training is going well and she is eager to please.
Check out the "
Valentines Day photo" at the top of this page. ("Roxy, sit, stay.")

Roxy with GRRMF (Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida)
volunteers, Jim and Marcie who are kind enough to transport
dogs all over the state for us. Thanks guys! Without volunteers
these poor souls would be condemned to a life of misery or most
often, no life at all. There are many ways you can help. We are
in desperate need of foster homes. Every new home is another
dog saved. We need fund raisers (and funds) for a kennel we
plan to build to house unwanted Goldens until they can be fostered
or adopted. To see how you can help click on the logo below.

Roxy came into rescue about a year ago this Thanksgiving. She was given up
by a young couple who kept her in the back yard. The problem was that she
kept jumping their 4 foot fence and they just didn't have time for her anymore.
When Roxy came into our program she was undernourished and had 0 manners.
She has been living with our Adoption Coordinator, Betty Wyatt, (along with
about a zillon other rescues) for the past year. She was being fostered by David,
who is a dog trainer (see above). We now have her. Roxy is now up to weight and learning
manners. This pretty girl has been in rescue a long time! Could she be the dog
of your dreams? For an application form click HERE.

Be sure to visit Roxy's friends Barnum and Bailey, no, not the circus but the Golden Retrievers. You can find them at: www.rescue-goldens.com
