This is Remington, or we call him Remmy. We picked him up from Animal Control in Manatee County on June 26 2001. He was scheduled to be put down that day as his five mandatory days were up. We received a call from our good friend that volunteers down there that they had taken a Flat Coated Retriever in. I thought to myself "yeah, right" but made arrangements to come in and id him on Thursday. We went down there KNOWING that he wasn't a FCR and boy were we shocked. I think my first words were "(insert expletive here) he really is a Flat Coat".

Is he a real Flat Coated Retriever? I think he is, but I can't be 100% sure. I'm not an "expert" and have only owned one for the last 3 years. I've seen plenty of them at the shows we attend and if this guy didn't have such a "gay" tail I wouldn't be surprised to see him entered in a show. We had our breeder look at him and she can't say for sure that he is for real, on the other hand she can't say he isn't. Just for funsies we took him to our handling class and had a long time sporting group judge (who is very familiar with Flat Coats) take a look at him. He says there is no doubt in his mind that he is a Flat Coat. So there you have it. All I know for sure is that he has got that FCR personality in spades! By the way...Remmy is "scrunched" up in the picture above. He has one of the straightest top lines I have seen.

This is what we know about Remmy after two weeks. He has that FCR outlook on life, coupled with no obedience training. Which means...he wants to be with people ALL the time, preferably in their lap. This guy is super people friendly and you can handle him however you wish with no protest from him. He doesn't walk well on a buckle collar, but is okay on a chain and even better on a prong. He gets along great with my neutered male and Golden foster. Also our one bitch. My unaltered 1 year old Golden is okay too. He hates my 3 year old intact male. I think it would be best if he went to a home with NO intact dogs. Cats are fine with him. He hasn't bothered ours at all. This tells me a lot about his personality.I also don't think he would do good in a home with small children UNLESS the people were willing to spend some time TRAINING him manners. I don't think he would ever bite a child, but I can guarantee that he will knock one down with his exuberance. We have started teaching him manners, but we can't deliver a "perfect" dog in the time we think we will be fostering him.
Remmy is a drop dead gorgeous boy! We get all kinds of comments whenever we take him out. He has a very nice head and a coat to die for. Like I mentioned earlier, he has a very gay tail when he is excited, which is about 99% of the time <smile>. We took him to our vet right after getting him and he has been given all his shots and is heartworm free. He was also neutered and had his teeth scaled. Our vet and breeder put his age to be around 1 1/2 to 3 years. Remember...he's NOT a black Golden Retriever. He acts like a FCR. You know. The dog that NEVER grows up. If you want a nice calm dog, Remmy is not for you. If you like a dog that is LOADS of fun and loves to love you, Remmy is your man.
