Has a new home!

Jenny was adopted today (11/17/00). As I write this she is on her way to her
new home and new Mom. This is Jenny with her new Dad. Look at the smiles
on those two! I will update this page with pictures and stories of Jenny as I get them.
You go girl! You earned this!

Jenny: (f) English diminutive of Jean, a feminine form of John, from
Hebrew: "God is gracious."
Indeed he is.

This was our first look at "Jenny". She didn't have a name then, only a case number (0100040-b). When I got home from work on Thursday I had a message from Trouchen (a volunteer at Animal Services of Manatee County) that they had a Golden who was scheduled to be put down that day, but she had pulled the papers and wanted to know if GRRMF was interested. If not then she would be put down the next day. And you didn't think it could ever happen to a Golden! The worlds best dog! Unfortunately it happens every day.

Not for this girl on this day! We have 3 goldens here in Sarasota right now that are waiting to come into GRRMF's program, but all their present owners have agreed to wait until a foster home is open. This poor girl didn't have that choice. Problem is that we DON'T HAVE ENOUGH FOSTER HOMES! Anyway...we went down to see her and fill out her papers. She was very dirty and full of fleas, but she was also very sweet! She seemed confused as to why she was being held in this very noisy place. To think that this sweet, gorgeous girl was scheduled to be put down just broke my heart. I tried not to think about all the other dogs that were kenneled with her because I knew they were to be put down also. Sometimes life really stinks and rescue is not much fun.

This poor girl came with no history and no name so we decided to call her Jenny. We were able to pick her up at the vets on Monday. She had a complete physical and was pronounced healthy. She had already been spayed and was heartworm free. She had all her shots given there and was also micro-chipped. The vet estimates her age at between 5 and 6 years. She is on the small side at 53 pounds and has a beautiful coat. Her white face makes her only that more appealing. She came home with us and was introduced to our gang of four and it was great. She has no problem getting along with other dogs. Jenny didn't try to eat our cat either, which is a good sign. We've only had her the one night so I need a little longer to evaluate her on that. She spent her first night at the side of my bed and seemed perfectly happy. She loves people and wants to be where you are.

I will keep this page updated as we really haven't had time to evaluate Jenny yet. The only things we know for sure is that she is very sweet and it would have been a crime to destroy such a nice dog. To think she came so close. Many thanks to Trouchen and all the other volunteers at all the shelters around the state that look after our babies. 11/7/00

update: We've had Jenny for another day now and here is what we know. Cats seem to be fine by her. Our cat has already managed to "curl" around her and she doesn't mind. She knows the commands sit and down and walks on a lead. Don't let her white face fool you! I asked the vet about this and he still believes her to be between 5 and 6. Sadly it was her white face that managed to put her at the front of the line to be put down! We think it makes her look very distinguished! Jenny went to obedience class with us last night and had a blast. She loves to have a fuss made over her! I'll keep you posted. 11/8/00

She is quite playful and has energy to burn!
