We've had Hudson for a month now and what a nice boy he is. I took him to my vet today (3/1/03) to have his micro-chip implanted, a bordetella vaccine and general exam. This boy is good to go! Man, did he love the attention he got from all the folks in the vet's office. He also loved greeting all the other dogs there.

Hudson passed his physical with flying colors. My vet estimate's his age at more than 10 months and less than 18. We'll just call him one year old and let whomever adopts him give him a birthday. He's still 58 lbs. so I suppose we'll have to up his food a tad. He only needs to gain a few to be at a really good weight.

Since he's mostly Golden Retriever and I know you're gonna ask...yes...I had Dr. Myburgh manipulate his hips like I do every foster. Cliff could find no laxity or any other reason to suspect Hip Dysplasia. ALRIGHT!!! It's what I always want to hear. Besides, this guy loves to run, jump, you name it, and does a lot of it :) Is this a guarantee that he's not dysplastic, of course not. It just means that Cliff couldn't find any reason to justify x-rays (the only guarantee, and one that Rescue can't afford to do on every dog brought in, only those that show symptoms).

We are still working with Hudson on some basic obedience. I only wish we had more time. Whomever adopts Hudson has to take him to obedience school. He's a young boy and really needs it, besides, he likes it :) Hudson is still "mouthy" but will stop when told to. As I was afraid of <sigh> he has managed to pick up some of my guys bad habits. This dog used to never jump on you...but now. Sorry guys, we're working on it. He really does want to please you. You should see him at our Thursday night classes now. Stair climbing...he loves it! Going over the A-Frame...what fun! You get the idea, this very shy dog that I picked up is getting more confidence by the day. He's really quite remarkable. Did I mention that he's one of only six over here that walks "nice" on a buckle collar :)

The bottom line is that Hudson is going to make someone a wonderful pet, just like every other shelter dog that I have ever fostered. I find it amazing how good these dogs are. Really. Hudson is so affectionate and appreciative it's scary. He's not one of those crazy, out of control dogs, he just needs direction. I defy anyone to meet this guy and not fall in love.
