I was away at a dog show when Amana's Mom "Trudy"
decided to whelp her pups. This of course meant that my husband
Jim would do the honors of bringing them into the world. Jim
had whelped a couple of pups without incidence, then along came
Amana and she appeared to have been stillborn, probably in the
birth canal a little too long. Jim tried to resuscitate her and
used all of his midwife skills, but to no avail, Amana was pronounced
"dead" after about 10 minutes. When our pups don't
make it into the world alive we wrap them in newspaper and put
them into the freezer to wait for the next trip to the recycling
station. Jim wrapped Amana in newspaper and put her in the freezer,
business as usual. Somewhere in the process of whelping the next
pup in line (it must have\par been 10 minutes or so since he
deposited Amana into the frig) Jim thought \par he heard something,
and as he went to the garbage to deposit the afterbirth from
the pup that had just been born, he was convinced that he heard
something....it was coming from the freezer, the dead puppy wasn't
dead any longer, she was screaming her lungs out!\par With a
lunge towards the freezer Jim ripped the door open and grabbed
the newspaper, shredding it off of her as she screamed for her
very life! He immediately doused her in warm water and heated
a towel to try to bring her body temperature back up. Jim says
he carried her around half of the day trying to make sure she
wasn't COLD any longer He knew within seconds that her name would
be Amana... what better name for a pup that came to life in the
freezer? Her registered name is SUNSHINE'S GENUINE GOOSEBUMP |
